Peer Education

One of the most import assumption in non-formal education is that the group (not the facilitator) is a source of knowledge in learning process. That is why the group becomes the source of experiences, abilities and knowledge.

What are the advantages of peer education?

  • It is easier to find common issues and trust person in the same age.
  • People in the same age use similar language, have similar beliefs about reality, deal with similar problems in their lives (high credibility of peer tutor).
  • Taking the role of an “expert” helps in building self-acceptance and self-esteem.
  • Peer education stimulates skills like: building statements, giving speeches, discussing and solving problems together.
  • Peer education increases active participation of the group in learning process.
