Lazarski Backstage - relation by our EVS volunteers

For the Centrum Inicjatyw MŁodzieżowych Horyzonty As part of our EVS Project, We decided to extend our passion for theatre to what became an International Spontaneous Theater Group Introducing us as the coordinators for this idea & Group facilitator: Olga Stobiecka Rozmiarek – educator, trainer, CIM Horyzonty member We present now the description of the international drama group project. Regarding the process, we will consider two different moments as the program   and meetings structure   have been adapted along the way. Moment one The pilot project In the beginning we can consider the following structure: The main aim: To raise awareness among teenagers from Łazarz about risk of addictions from drugs, alcohol, Internet, TV…etc. using Forum Theatre as a tool for social change. Objectives:
  • To activate and integrate volunteers coming from different cultures living in Poznań using drama;
  • To introduce and explore Forum theatre as an educational tool method to work with different groups;
  • To prepare Forum Theatre performances about risks of addictions among teenagers;
  • To present the performances at Gimnazjum in Łazarz district;
The Participants: With invitation by mailing list and creation of the open event on facebook, we were looking for people interested in drama techniques and theater as a tool for social change. Also one of the purposes was the special interest for work with youth . The invitation was offered to people between 18 – 30 years old and willing to prepare Forum theatre performance, to be used in gimnazjum at Łazarz district. The work would be established with English and partly Polish language. Program (Techniques and Methods)
  • warm ups
  • discussions and debriefings
  • improvisation
  • image theatre
  • forum theatre
  • Theatre of  the Opressed by Augusto Boal
The aims of the group: learn and practice improvisation, body expression, and emotional expression with verbal and non verbal communication Moment two Commitments and parallel activities of participants from outside these sessions sometimes did not aloud all members to join all together.  As time was passing by, we were left with few meetings so it lead to the fact that we did not had  so much time  to work on Forum Theater properly. The final resolution was to focus on image – theater as main tool for public performance and presentation in the days of Łazarz. The final presentation was shaped according to the themes for Days of Łazarz. The main ideas were: ecological attitude, saving backyards, promotion of voluntary work including EVS - European Voluntary Service, helping neighbors (sense of community), based on which, we developed a character. The final Group The group had the following composition:  EVS Volunteers from Macedonia, Portugal and Spain, including Erasmus student and Horyzonty members from Poland. Program The program of workshops focused on the following key-words: Warm – up, team-building, improvisation, image-theater & performance. Where & When   ? The drama meetings took place from April until June, once per week with 2-3 meetings, in Wyzsza Szkola Umiejetnosci Spolecznych -  WSUS. The result: Presentation for Dni Łazarza .
